recipe breastplate, gpfault, 2005-12-28 18:00:06
No help for topic "recipe breastplate".
There is no recipe for 'breastplate'., zaecus, 2005-12-29 04:33:33
There's one for 'carapace breastplate', and there might eventually be one for 'metal breastplate' or some such.

Nobody should have equipment that there isn't a recipe of some sort for.

Because unless the gods make something, then a mortal must be able to.

If you are talking about the guards, that would be 'metal breastplate', with the metal being copper.

As for nothing existing unless their is first a recipe for it, I see a flaw in your logic.

We're not skilled enough to produce some things, yet, so if they're going to get tested, they need to be produced some other way (as well as support eq for testing some things that are in the game). Also, we will never be able to produce everything.

By your sentiments here, with the entire game being player-malleable, Candle Hill should not exist with its temple and recall point bookshelves, bathtub, bed, and fountains.

After all, as you have said, we're still in some phase indicated by a greek letter.

Please bear in mind that many of the items that currently exist in the world are hangovers from ages past. Not to say that these ages were in any way inebriated. But they came up with some doozies, like Iron Boots vs. Metal Boots. I currently own several pairs of each, in all of the latest trends. And by latest, I mean most dead, as these recipes do not, or at least should not exist. Specifically iron boots.

I understand the problems with being strict with the "recipe backing" requirement...but IMHO it would be a good philosophy, that any mortal made object should be player buildable/craftable (assuming of course infinite wood/stone/skill/whatever), that is, eventually.

I say eventually because I realize game development is more important than having a "recipe trail" dogging the every step of game creativity. Plus objects will need to be debugged before recipes for them are released.

with player run gov'ts and cities planned for the indefinite future. I don't think CH should have an edge just because it has stuff that players can't build.

Just my two cents investment in the far future. Nothing I'm saying has any present impact.
