Not sure if we want to implement this -- it's certainly possible, though. Perhaps not as a character creation choice, but as a feature of the color of clothing you are wearing? You can make dye crafting one of the skills in the game, make certain colors very rare, etc. etc. Could probably apply the same general idea to other objects (i.e. dye all your furniture blue and green).
While I'm on the topic, does anyone think it's a good idea to allow for wall colors (walls of rooms) other than gray? Seems like it might be nice to have red walls in a volcano, blue walls in a cave, etc.

The idea here is to make changing clothing change the color of your character icon. The room thing can wait.
One prob with this, though: The white/blue distinction is fairly important in helping you to keep track of which character is your own. If you have two players with the same clothing color near each other, how could you distinguish?
One possibility is to have ONLY your own character show up as an @ sign -- everyone else could show up as an icon relevant to their race (h for human for everyone, atm).

I've made a small but very nice change. On the map, you are still a white @. Everyone else is still blue, but now they are the first letter of their name instead of just @. I already love it to death.
As for colors based on clothes, I think it's a great idea that should wait until we have crafted, colored clothes. I'm backburnering this discussion.

I've now added one more litle step: if they've introduced to you, they show up as the first letter of their name. If not, they're back to @s. Just thought of this a few minutes ago.
