form.martial_artist How about Bruce Lee style fighting?
planned, allaryin, 2005-01-31 16:21:08
Advanced combat forms for all weapon varieties are already planned for. The first advanced form that will be written is going to be a light sword swashbuckling type form, followed by an offensive unarmed form.
Ooh cool!, gpfault, 2005-02-01 08:58:44
It would be SOOO much fun to kick butt kung fu style.
oh no., sora, 2005-02-01 16:58:28

Okay, officially, I'm against this act myself.

Sure have martial arts if you want to, but do we need this style? Its so cliché these days. Even (evil) Yoda does it.

That being said, could it please be called "Jeet Kun Do" instead of "Bruce Lee Style"?

Yeah, there's not going to be any such 'Bruce Lee' form or even a 'JKD' form. Any such advanced forms will have game-appropriate names.

The advanced unarmed form that I have been planning for will require a visit to the dragon cult east of the orcish woods. However, we've yet to build that area. The form will feature:
- a stunning punch (low hp damage, high readiness damage, chance to interrupt spellcasting)
- a multi-punch attack (hit twice, once for normal damage, and again for half)
- an iron skin reaction (low frequency) that converts damage taken into mana
- a focused strike attack (improved damage, costs mana)

The swashbuckler form (light swords and daggers) will be gotten from a trainer on the docks of Candle Hill. It will feature:
- an improved parry reaction
- an average chance of counterattack after successful parries
- actions that attack with two wielded weapons at once
- lunge, a high readiness cost piercing attack that does high damage if it hits
halfling berserker, allaryin, 2005-02-02 00:35:32
Halfling berserker (advanced polearm) form will be learned from one of the tribesman in outer CH when the camp is built:
- a rage action with low readiness requirement (50%) that converts hp into readiness (+50-100% of bar for 7-15 damage)
- an impale action that costs a lot of readiness but does incredible piercing damage and inflicts a bleeder
- a reaction that regenerates readiness based on the amount of damage taken (1-2% per point taken)
defender form, allaryin, 2005-02-02 00:39:10
A defender form learned from dwarves in Forgehaven. Axe, shield, heavy armour:
- reduced number of offensive actions (one or two from axe form)
- improved block reaction
- reaction to take advantage of heavy armour and convert damage taken into readiness
elementalist form, allaryin, 2005-02-02 00:44:18
Advanced offensive spellcaster/unarmed form. Actions cost mana but are fast spells not castable by other means:
- fire, chance of igniting for burn bleeder
- water, chance of freezing for hold effect (short duration)
- air, edged damage, chance of interrupting spellcasting
- earth, blunt damage, chance of stun effect (readiness damage)
plus, allaryin, 2005-02-02 00:44:52
There are also a few other planned forms listed on my todo page.

In order to learn advanced forms, one will likely need at least 'relatively good' in all related skill(s), and will need to convince the trainer to teach it. Most trainers will probably just sell the ability, but others might require quests.
