being able to break locks
well, aeao, 2004-03-02 21:47:03
Before we do that we need to be able to build stronger locks to prevent people from breaking them. :) I dont want to be robbed
Hmm..., acius, 2004-03-03 01:12:36
MUDs tend to be much higher-crime places than real-life. Locks give you a measure of protection; however, if you make them easily breakable, you've pretty much nullified their reason for existence.
I think it should be possible for players to break or remove locks, but I want a lot of social control over that system, and we don't have the infrastructure for that yet.

Removing locks, tamaryn, 2004-03-07 19:06:12
I think that the owner of the building/door/lock should have the choice to remove a lock that they put on. I've accidentally put two locks on one door, with two different keys. I kinda got locked inside until Malap came along and got me out. :P
I've done that before, aeao, 2004-03-07 19:52:17
And I agree
I'ven't tested this but...., sora, 2004-03-07 20:29:11
isn't it true that doors can only have one lock now?
Doesn't that make this thread closeable?

No, the 'multiple locks' issue is unrelated to the locksmithing/doorbreaking that this thread started with.
Yes, doors can only have one lock on them now.

Nod, owner checks, focker, 2004-03-08 18:25:53
If someone tried to remove a lock from a door, it should check to see if they're the owner of that lock/door/building/whatever. Or maybe it could check to see if they have a key to that door, because some people share locks: me and Aeao both have keys to the locks on two buildings.
If the check comes up positive, they should be able to remove or destroy the lock.

Maybe, aeao, 2004-03-08 22:28:44
Instead of checking to see if you own the building it should just check to see if its your lock. If you accidentally put a a lock on someone else's building it could make it much easier.

If you put a lock on someone else's building, they should be able to remove it at any time.
