The dock is kinda boring. Shouldn't it be a little nicer looking? like maybe resemble a dock on the inside? Can it show the ship when it arrives too inside the dock?
nod, yes, focker, 2004-02-07 21:07:19
I've been thinking that it should show the ship when it's docked.

Also, this isn't *exactly* the same subject, but it just popped in my head. When you're at a real dock, you don't just see the ship (or boat) when it's at the dock; you see it a long time before that. So doesn't it seem logical that, say, if the ship is going to arrive at the dock in 2 minutes, the room description said: "You see the ship sailing along the horizon," or "You see the ship, far out in the water."
good point, malap, 2004-02-08 02:39:03
You're right, the ship is way too quick. For a masted ship of its size, it should take at least twenty minutes to manuever to the dock, five to tie up, ten to cast away...

It appears as if this post (of malaps) is say, "of course its not realistic, but if it was you wouldn't really want it realistic" but the 30 minutes described, would be about a minute of RL time. which is about the time that the ship is in port. add another 5 minutes to board (which should be enough because of the extra "hey the ship is coming" posts for warning).
Heh, 2 minutes, acius, 2004-02-14 06:01:32
Has anyone actually *timed* the ship? Its entire route only takes about 2.5 minutes, so a 2 minute warning would be amusing. It just seems longer because of impatience ;-).

I would like to show something inside the dock eventually; I don't because drawing that ASCII art is a lot of work and I haven't gotten around to it yet. This is likely something to be revisited in beta, honestly.
